Why Choose LORDS?
Choosing the right school is one of the most impactful decisions you’ll make for your child’s future. More than academics, a school shapes a child’s values, confidence, and emotional well-being. At LORDS, we believe in Inspiring Great Humans—those who are prepared for life’s challenges and committed to lifelong learning.
When you are considering which school is the best fit for your child, here are some of the reasons you should consider LORDS:
The Role of School in Shaping Character
Schools are not just about grades; they’re environments where values, resilience, empathy, and integrity are nurtured. Schools act as second homes, with teachers, peers, and mentors all contributing to a child's personal growth, becoming lifelong influences.
Throughout LORDS there is an emphasis on developing positive relationships between students and between teachers and students. These relationships are guided by Christian principles and based on Scripture.
How can we build a peaceful world? By learning from a young age how to resolve conflict peacefully. At LORDS we believe that holding on to hurts or indulging in payback are damaging, inappropriate ways of responding to conflict. Instead, we apply our Round Table Policy based on Jesus’ teachings and the principles of restorative justice. We involve students in experiences where they learn how to listen to others, speak their minds confidently, and resolve differences through mediation and reconciliation.
Beyond the Classroom: Learning for Life
True learning happens not only in classrooms but also in hallways, on sports fields, and through clubs and community projects. These experiences teach students that education extends beyond textbooks—it’s about learning to collaborate, respect others’ perspectives, and navigate challenges with integrity.
When students engage in activities like sports, arts, or service projects, they develop perseverance, empathy, and a sense of responsibility. Facing wins and losses in sports, working on a team project, or volunteering for a cause brings lessons that stick. These moments teach students resilience, self-awareness, and social responsibility, skills they’ll carry long after they leave the school grounds.
We encourage all our students, staff, and members of our community to explore questions that allow them to consider how they can make a positive difference in the world. We refer to these questions as the LORDS Big 3:
• What would you like to create?
• What problems would you like to solve?
• How would you like to serve?
Service Learning is an educational approach where a student learns theories in the classroom and at the same time volunteers with an agency (usually a non-profit or social service group) and engages in reflection activities to deepen their understanding of what is being taught.
It is a cycle of theories, practices, and reflection tools to broaden knowledge and critical thinking skills for social change.
You might commonly hear it related to terms such as civic engagement, community development, advocacy, philanthropy, social change, volunteerism, community service, and experiential learning.
As a result of service learning, students learn more about the community and themselves while fulfilling a need in the community and meeting classroom requirements.
Curriculum Choices: Shaping Mind and Character
The curriculum does more than deliver academic knowledge; it's carefully designed to cultivate curiosity, critical thinking, and a love for learning. When students explore subjects from literature and history to science and the arts, they’re exposed to diverse ideas and perspectives. These choices aren’t just about fulfilling requirements—they’re opportunities to nurture ethical awareness, adaptability, and lifelong learning.
A well-rounded curriculum teaches students to ask questions, consider various viewpoints, and draw their own conclusions, empowering them to become thoughtful individuals who engage meaningfully with the world around them. Elective courses, project-based learning, and interdisciplinary studies all play a role in developing a student’s sense of purpose and helping them find what they’re passionate about.
LORDS Middle School elective program is called Passion and Purpose Pathways. The approach we take amplifies student voice, and provides opportunities for choice and challenge within learning and enhanced engagement.
The performing and visual arts are integral to a holistic education and our students have many opportunities to display their work and perform within our school community and beyond including our school musicals in both Junior and Secondary Schools.
At LORDS, we pride ourselves on providing a diverse range of sporting opportunities that cater to all interests and skill levels.
Our program includes signature sports such as futsal, netball, Kokoda, touch football, and basketball. We’ve also introduced a rugby 7s program and will be adding track and field to our offerings in the near future. This expansion reflects our commitment to creating a comprehensive sports experience for all students.
The LORDS Ways
The LORDS Ways are the skills, attributes, and mindsets we believe are important to develop in our young people, to ensure they are prepared to enter and contribute to a rapidly changing world. This work has been based on current research surrounding the future of work, aligned with the General Capabilities from the Australian Curriculum and has included input from staff, students, and parents to ensure it is meeting the needs of our learning community.
The LORDS Ways are separated into three distinct categories. Ways of Thinking, Learning, and Being align with our school vision of educating the heart, mind, and hands, so that our learners feel equipped to make a positive difference in the world.
