DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT
Jesus Himself didn’t come to be served; He came to serve. He could have chosen to be the one sitting at the head of the table, but instead, He got down on His knees and washed the feet of His friends. He showed us that greatness in the Kingdom of God looks different from what the world might say. It’s not about being the best or the most important; it’s about being there for others.
We are reminded of this in Matthew 20:26-28
"Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
Service isn’t just something we do on weekends or when we’re asked to. It’s a way of life, a way of following Jesus in everything we do. For us, living the LORD’s way means looking for ways to serve, whether it’s helping out at home, being there for a friend, or lending a hand in our community. It’s about seeing a need and saying, “I can help with that.” And when we serve with a joyful heart, we’re not just doing good things; we’re living like Jesus.
As a family, think about the ways you can serve together. Maybe it’s as simple as making dinner together and taking an extra plate to a neighbour, or spending time as a family volunteering for a cause that matters to you.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for showing us what it means to serve. Help us to follow Your example every day. Give us eyes to see the needs around us, hands that are ready to help, and hearts full of love for others. May our service bring joy to others and honor to You.
Amen.
