A reminder, that from Monday 5th February, all Junior School classes will be finishing school at 3.00pm. Secondary School will continue to finish at 3.10pm.

Ash Wednesday is the start of Lent and has become a special way of beginning the forty day journey (not counting Sundays) to Good Friday and Easter. Jesus comes alongside us, looks at the things which destroy life and says to us…..COME WITH ME. We follow Christ, as He makes his way toward the Cross, which destroyed His life.

Wearing ashes, we follow Jesus, we discover that He actually comes with us into all those situations, which threaten to rob our life of its value. As we follow Him, we discover how He intends to deal with everything that destroys life. Things like selfishness and hate. Even death itself. Wearing ashes, we believe that there is life beyond death. That is why people come and receive the sign of the cross marked with ashes. The mark of the cross reminds us that we our loved by a God who loved us so much, he gave us his only son.

• Start of the Lent season as prepare for the celebration of Easter

Our academic scholarship program rewards students who are high-level academic achievers and will be entering Years 7 to 12 the following calendar year.

Criteria: LORDS awards academic scholarships based on the results of our scholarship examinations which are held twice a year in March and again in September. Students only need to sit one exam per year. Exam results, in consultation with a Principal’s interview, previous school reports, and NAPLAN results, may result in a scholarship being offered for the following academic year.

What a historic day for LORDS. This photo is of the foundation prep class who are now Seniors 2024 (from left to right ; Jack M, Sienna M, Bailey O, Charlotte M, Jasmine B, Jayda W, James P, Molly R, Heath S). This is a first for our community. These young people have been with us from Prep - Year 12. We wish them and their fellow students every blessing for this year.

Our Year 7 students were very busy this week working collaboratively in groups as they explored ‘Ways of Learning’ (I can be curious). It was terrific to see students engaged in asking questions, exploring, wondering, and being curious. Developing 21st Century skills is an important part of a LORDS Education, and it was wonderful to see this in action.

We are delighted to announce that work commenced in late January 2024 on a new Junior School general learning area building. This new development is positioned between H Block and M Block adjacent to the far end of the drop-and-go zone in the bottom car park. The building will be two levels with the upper level comprising three general learning areas and a Junior School staff hub, and the lower level providing student amenities and a multi-use undercroft area. It is anticipated that the building will accommodate classes in the upper primary year groups, and the flexibility of the space will allow for large group lessons when combining the three general learning areas.

The building has been designed in partnership with the School’s architect Andrew Brewer from Burling Brown Architects and is an important part of the School’s Masterplan which was approved by the State Government in December 2022. inSite Construction Services have been appointed as the builder for the project and they are due to start on site in a couple of weeks. The building is due for completion in late November 2024 in readiness for the start of the 2025 school year.

Equally as important as buildings are the outdoor spaces for our students. During early 2024 we will be starting the planning process for a new play space that will sit to the east of the new building once complete, it is hoped that Stage 1 of this play space will also be ready for use at the start of the 2025 school year. The School’s landscape architect Debbie Laporte from Orterra will be working with our students and staff to formulate a design for the new play space. The entire project will be built in stages and when complete it will be one of the major play spaces for students in our Junior School.

How great do our Year 6 2024 class shirts look? Every blessing to our Year 6 students as they lead the Junior School this year.

What five things would you put in an ‘All About Me Bag’ that would tell people about yourself and what is unique and special about you? Well, today Ms Hoff, Mrs Carr and Mrs Drake got to share with students in 3B what they would include in their bag, while students also shared something about themselves. It was a great way to connect with each other, practice active listening, developing empathy and understanding, and building a sense of belonging and community.

Stories connect us as we learn so much about each other, how we are similar, and how our differences can be celebrated. Yesterday, Ms Hoff and Mrs Voorhoeve shared their family tree story with the Year 4 class as part of their unit of work. We are looking forward to seeing the connections on the world map as every student shares their story with the class.

WHAT'S NEW IN 2024? The amazing new bus wraps on our school buses!

Great job by Gold Coast Wraps and a big thanks to our students for allowing us to use their images in our design. Our buses will be easy to recognise on the road with this bright and distinct artwork!

It was terrific to see so many faces at our student orientation last week. A great time to settle and connect before school started. Let’s make 2024 a wonderful year to remember.

It was a busy week in January at LORDS with staff preparing for students' return to school. It was great for staff from LORDS to connect with St Andrews and Bethania for some terrific professional learning about Restorative Practices from Marg Thorsborne. Staff have been planning for exciting learning opportunities to start the term. Landscape projects have gone ahead despite the recent wet weather. Our newly renovated performing arts space had finishing touches made and was ready for the start of the year.
