God’s story is one of love, redemption, and service. Throughout Scripture, we see Jesus entering into the lives of others, listening to their struggles, walking alongside them, and bringing hope. His story is woven into ours, and through service learning, we can reflect His love in the world.

When we engage in service, we are not just offering help — we are entering into relationships. We listen to people’s experiences, understand their journeys, and learn from their wisdom. In doing so, our own stories are shaped and transformed.

Last week, our Surviving the Adult Jungle students swapped the classroom for the coastline, taking part in an action-packed workshop with Surf Life Saving Queensland. With the ocean as their backdrop, they learned essential skills in CPR, water safety, and surf survival—all hands-on and practical! With the beach at our doorstep, these skills are more than just useful—they’re lifesaving. A huge thank you to Surf Life Saving Queensland for equipping our students with the confidence to stay safe in the water!

Our Junior School students welcomed a special group of Japanese visitors from Nagoya University last week.
Our new Japanese friends were excited to teach our students Japanese games – a card matching game using anime characters, an origami paper plane challenge, a traditional card disc throwing game, a Japanese-style ‘pin the tail on the donkey’, and a very popular ‘what’s in the box?’ guessing game with Japanese items only.

The Japanese students enjoyed a tour of both the Junior and Secondary campuses, learning about how LORDS promotes student wellbeing and a love of learning. They loved trying out the trampolines in the Secondary School playground, hearing about our Buddy Benches, and exploring how the students use the loose parts in the Imagination Station. とても楽しかったです！

Our Year 12 Biology students had a great excursion to Hastings Point, collecting data for their assessment. Real life and engaging learning is an important part of a LORDS education. Thanks to Anna M (Year 12 student) for the great photos capturing the day.

The LORDS Performing Arts Department would like to congratulate Alannah Eyerich on her lead role in Spotlight Theatrical Company's production of Fame. As we settle into the school year, it has been wonderful to see our students engaging in a variety of exciting activities. From welcoming new student to LORDS at our ‘Getting to Know You’ morning teas to preparing for the much-anticipated Junior School Musical, the start of the term has been filled with enthusiasm and energy!

‘Getting to Know You’ Morning Teas
Building strong relationships between students and staff is an important part of our school community. Our ‘Getting to Know You’ morning teas have provided a fantastic opportunity for the leadership team to connect with new students and find out how they are settling in. It was great to hear how students are enjoying making new friends, connecting with their teachers, and learning and playing together. These morning teas have helped students feel welcomed and supported as they begin their journey at our school. Thank you to everyone who participated—we look forward to continuing to foster these important connections throughout the year.

Welcoming Japanese Students from Nagoya University
Last week, we were thrilled to have a group of Japanese students from Nagoya University visiting our classes during their Japanese lesson. Our students had the unique opportunity to interact with them, learn about Japanese culture, and even practice their language skills! The visit was an enriching experience for all involved, fostering cross-cultural connections and understanding. A huge thank you to Mrs Van Engelen, Miss Hartfiel, and the visiting staff from Nagoya University who helped make this visit such a success.

Junior School Musical Rehearsals in Full Swing!
Excitement is building as rehearsals for the Junior School Musical continue! Our young performers have been working hard to bring the production to life, with dedicated practice sessions filled with music, dance, and drama. Ms Hoff loved visiting our Prep classes to share her favourite story book, ‘The Book with No Pictures’ with everyone. We all agreed on what our favourite page was (it made Ms Hoff say some ridiculous things). As you can see from the photos, this book is clearly hilarious and fun!

Our students were excited to be back in the STEM learning space, embracing their creative and innovative talents. They took little time to get acquainted with their preferred STEM activities. Here's a glimpse of what they have been doing so far this term.

Thanks to our Year 4 class of 2024 (current Year 5) for presenting students in Prep – Year 2 with crosses for their classrooms at assembly. These crosses were created as part of our Year 4 Project Based Learning/Service-Learning Unit ‘How might we acknowledge indigenous culture at LORDS?’ The students designed these beautiful crosses for every Junior School classroom to become a centre point for devotion time.

SWIMMING

Congratulations to Year 9 student, Hanna R, who swam 2nd in the 50m Breaststroke at the QLD Sprint Championships at the weekend.

SOCCER

Jaedyn V, Indie C, and Liam C have been selected for the Pacific Districts Soccer team and will compete at the Regionals in the coming weeks. This is an amazing achievement since they were up against players from 16 other schools and about 40 trialists. We wish our athletes well as they bid to make the South Coast team!

ATHLETICS

Estayah S & Max C competed at the South Coast Regionals Athletics.

Max won his 400m, 800m & 1500m races and has qualified for QLD State Championships to be held in March.

Estayah also jumped a huge PB to qualify for QLD State Championships in both High Jump and Triple Jump.

Only the top 4 in each event qualify, so they've done incredibly well to be in the top 4 of their age group in their region for those events.

They'll represent South Coast together at the QLD State Championships on 22nd and 23rd March.

Congratulations and all the very best for the next round of competitions. We are so very proud of both of you.

NETBALL

Congratulations to Hayley C in Year 11 who has been selected in the Pacific Districts 16-19yr Girls Netball Team to attend the Regional trials in March.
Hayley becomes LORDS' 5th athlete to make a Pacific District team!!!

SCIENCE

Mirabella B is the first of our Senior Science students to be successfully selected for the first SPARQ Ed Immersion Program of the year.

Programs offered by SPARQ-ed are open to all senior Year 10, 11, and 12 students and teachers throughout Queensland. Students are selected through an application process with school approval.

Applications consist of a section where the applicant writes about their interest in Science to stated criteria. Programs usually run during the holidays and last for 5 days.

SPARQ-ed was created to bridge the gap between high school science and real-world biomedical research. Our programs are designed to enhance the delivery of the STEM curriculum and inspire students to pursue learning and career opportunities in these fields.

In past projects, participants have used advanced cell and molecular biology techniques to create gene constructs used in research into metabolic disorders and prostate cancer, create libraries of mutated versions of genes important in molecular virology and cancer research, cloned segments of genes involved in the regulation of the cell cycle and observed the localisation and function of important proteins within cancer cells.

BASKETBALL

William S has qualified for the13-16 Boys Basketball Team at the Pacific Districts and will now compete at the Regionals in the coming weeks. Congratulations WIlliam.

Hadi Ashnaei, our Futsal Coordinator, has been appointed through the Australian Futsal Association (AFA), as Coach of the Australian U14’s Boys Futsal Team who will tour China for 12 days in July.

We are very fortunate to have someone of Hadi’s calibre working with our young people and growing our program, in Futsal.

Eva L and Avani K attended the Coomera Crushers Rugby Union Club - Come and Try 7s, morning on Saturday. The girls said they “loved every second of it… it was so much fun” and “we learned so much”, “Everyone was so nice, and we learned how to tackle”

This bodes well for our community club connection with the Crushers and for the imminent launch of our U14 Girls, Open Girls, and U14 Boys 7s teams who will join the Open Boys, as part of the growing program of Rugby 7s at the school.

Tuckshop

Our Tuckshop on Wheels operates for morning tea and lunch on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Orders are to be placed online via Flexischools prior to 8.15 am each day. Students from Years 7 - 12 and staff may purchase over the counter with cash or eftpos at break times. We do not allow Junior School students to purchase items over the counter. All Junior School orders must be placed using Flexischools.

Our LORDS Tuckshop is looking for a team of valued volunteers to help in our busy kitchen.
You will be assisting us in labeling our orders, simple food preparation, and serving our students at break times.
