Celebrating Bravery and Collaboration: LORDS Students and Staff Shine at the Kokoda Challenge
At LORDS, fostering a culture of bravery and collaboration is at the heart of one of our LORDS Ways: Ways of Learning (I can be independent, collaborative, and brave). Our students and staff continually demonstrate these values, both in the classroom and beyond, as they engage in activities that challenge their physical and mental mindset while promoting teamwork. A shining example of this spirit was their participation in the recent Kokoda Challenge on the Gold Coast.
The Kokoda Challenge, known as Australia's toughest team endurance event, is a grueling trek that spans over 30, 48, or 96 kilometers through the Gold Coast Hinterland. This event is not just a test of physical stamina but also of mental resilience, strategic planning, and, above all, teamwork. By participating in this event, our students embodied the essence of the Kokoda spirit: courage, endurance, mateship, and sacrifice.
Bravery in Action
For many of our students, the Kokoda Challenge was their first encounter with such an intense physical endeavour. The preparation involved months of rigorous training, balancing academic responsibilities with physical conditioning. Our students displayed remarkable bravery as they tackled the demanding terrain, pushing through fatigue and discomfort. Their determination to complete the course is a testament to their inner strength and courage.
The Power of Collaboration
The Kokoda Challenge is designed to be a team event, emphasising the importance of collaboration. Our students and staff worked in teams, navigating the course together, making collective decisions, and encouraging one another through the toughest sections. This experience highlighted the power of collaboration, as they learned the value of relying on and supporting one another.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
Participating in the Kokoda Challenge provided our students with invaluable lessons that extend beyond the traditional classroom setting. They learned about perseverance, the importance of preparation, and the rewards of hard work. Moreover, they experienced firsthand the significance of camaraderie and community spirit. These are lessons that will stay with them for life, shaping them into resilient and empathetic individuals.
A Community Effort
The success of our students in the Kokoda Challenge was a collective achievement. We extend our gratitude to the dedicated teachers, parents, and volunteers who supported the students throughout their journey. We would like to especially acknowledge Mr Brandon Bull for his outstanding leadership in organizing, mentoring, and encouraging our students and staff throughout this year.
