Dear Heavenly Father,

We bring before you the young hearts and eager minds of our young people. Grant them the courage to face each day with joy and enthusiasm, eager to learn and grow in knowledge and wisdom. May they find delight in the wonders of discovery.

Bless their teachers, parents /caregivers, and mentors with patience, wisdom, and compassion as they nurture these young minds. May they inspire a love for learning, instill values of kindness and integrity, and guide them on the path to success.

Protect them from the challenges and pressures they may face in their journey through school. Shield them from harm, both physical and emotional, and surround them with your loving presence wherever they may go.

Help them to be brave in the face of adversity, resilient in times of difficulty, and compassionate towards those in need. May they never lose sight of their worth and potential, knowing that they are fearfully and wonderfully made in your image.

We thank you for the precious gift of our young people. May they grow in grace and wisdom.

The LORDS Way - Ways of Thinking

I can be creative, curious and critical are three ways of engaging our students in thinking at LORDS. These qualities not only enrich the journey of learning but also equip our children with tools to navigate the complexities of the world. The "LORDS Way," let's explore how we can nurture these traits in our children and support their growth.

There are many opportunities for families to develop these Ways of Thinking.

• Play and Exploration: Encourage your children to engage in imaginative play and exploration from a young age. Provide them with open-ended toys, art supplies, and outdoor spaces where they can freely express themselves and discover the world around them. Allow them the freedom to experiment, make mistakes, and learn from their experiences.
• Offer Diverse Experiences: Expose your children to a variety of experiences, both within and outside their comfort zones. Whether it's visiting museums, attending cultural events, or trying out new hobbies, exposing them to diverse perspectives and activities sparks curiosity and broadens their horizons. Encourage them to ask questions, seek answers, and think critically about the world around them.
• Encourage Independent Thinking: Foster an environment where independent thinking is celebrated and encouraged. Encourage your children to express their opinions, question assumptions, and think for themselves. Provide them with opportunities to make decisions, solve problems, and explore their interests autonomously. Celebrate their unique ideas and perspectives, even if they differ from your own.
• Model Curiosity and Lifelong Learning: Be a role model for your children by demonstrating your own curiosity and commitment to lifelong learning. Share your own interests, hobbies, and pursuits with them, and involve them in your own learning journey. Embrace challenges, seek out new knowledge, and demonstrate resilience in the face of setbacks. Show them that learning is a lifelong adventure filled with endless possibilities.
• Embrace Failure as a Learning Opportunity: Encourage a growth mindset by teaching your children to embrace failure as a natural part of the learning process. Help them understand that setbacks and mistakes are opportunities for growth and learning. Encourage them to persevere, learn from their failures, and adapt their approach. Celebrate their efforts and progress.

By embracing the LORDS Way—fostering creativity, critical thinking, and curiosity—we empower our children to become lifelong learners, compassionate leaders, and innovative thinkers.

We’ve also had a lot of fun building empathy and our understanding of the experiences and perspectives of people who lived during the Industrial Revolution.

Ms Hoff loved visiting our Year 11 & 12 students earlier this week as they worked on completing their first projects for Industrial Technology Skills. Keep up the fine work, young people!

This week in Surviving the Adult Jungle we opened up the conversation of safety. We had experts come in and we engaged in a hands-on self-defence workshop. These skills focused on providing our students with the confidence, capability, and skills to deal with the realities of conflict that they can face, not just at school and socially, but also the skills to set them up for life, whatever their chosen path may be.
The training and skills that we learned today, not only improved our abilities to escape danger but also focused on methods to significantly reduce the likelihood of ever needing to use these physical skills.

Week 2 of the Writer’s Room has come and gone and we have had so much participation from Year 8 and 9 students.
Some students are working on writing novels/novellas, others are constructing environments (by mapping them out) that narratives will take place in, others are creating characters for games, whilst others are chipping away at digital animations.
It has a wonderful, creative vibe and it’s so nice to see students in different year levels chatting with one another about their projects.

DAY 1 OF CAMP

Our Year 7 Campers have begun their stay at Luther Heights on a ‘high’ – with Koala Climb, High Ropes Challenge and the Flying Fox, being the ‘high’lights! After a scrumptious lunch of burgers and salad the students ventured into team challenges with some wet feet on the suspension bridge and steely concentration on the balance board challenges. It was great to witness the students build new friendships and encourage each other, ensuring everyone set themselves personal challenges to strive for. Our Trivia competition after dinner was a close one, with our winners needing to wear sunnies due to being so bright! Everyone is looking forward to another fantastic day on Tuesday!

DAY 2

Another busy day at Luther Heights for our Year 7 Campers, with a delicious breakfast of bacon and waffles before a trip to Coolum Beach for some fun in the sun! The students enjoyed the beach challenges – and the chance to dip their toes in the ocean. They also hit the high and low ropes, climbed trees and ladders, and even managed to squeeze in a catapult water fight! A highlight of their day was a visit by Ms Hoff and the Captains, who spent time chatting with the Year 7s about their favourite parts of Camp and life in Year 7 at LORDS. They even stayed to watch the start of Movie night and have a laugh along with the students at Shrek’s antics! A huge fun-filled day for our campers!

We are excited to invite our Year 7 Parents to "Let's Connect" on Wednesday 20th March. Details have been emailed to all Year 7 Families so please book your tickets by 13th March.

At STEM Club, students identified two problems that were hindering fish from thriving in our school pond, these included a falling aerator and a non-functioning conflute. After addressing these areas of concern, students used nets to see if any fish were still alive and were delighted to discover some ‘Ornate Rainbow Fish’ and ‘Glass Shrimp’.

Subsequently, they researched compatible species that would contribute to a thriving pond environment.

It's great to see our students using their initiative to solve problems like these. We look forward to seeing more STEM Club problem-solving projects!

LORDS is excited to announce that construction has commenced on our new Junior School Learning Area Building. We are aiming to open it ready for the beginning of the 2025 school year. Thanks to Burling Brown Architects for their amazing design skills.

Our Year 5/6 students participated in Surf Life Saving Queensland’s Beach Awareness program at Burleigh Heads. It’s a great day for our students where they get to learn valuable lessons about beach and ocean safety and also have some fun in the sand and water. Look at their excitement

SAVE THE DATE JUNIOR SCHOOL! The 80s are coming to the COLA! On Friday 26th April we will be getting our groove on from Prep to Year 6 at the very funky and fun JUNIOR SCHOOL DISCO. Lock this date in your diary. There will be Food Trucks: Black Sheep Brew & Chew Miss P Icecream, DJ Soul Fusion, Dance Performances, Prizes, and the very energetic Karizmatik Entertainment keeping everyone on the dancefloor for this very special event.
Prep - Year 2 will hit the floor from 4pm to 6pm, then Year 3 to Year 6 will dance into the night from 6pm to 8pm. There is a $3 cover charge per child (like all good discos in the 80s would charge!)

Congratulations to all swimmers involved in the Pacific District Trials last week. You represented LORDS with pride and everyone came away with some incredible results. A special mention to Hanna R and Tyler W, who were both chosen for the regional South Coast Trials, the LORDS community wishes them all the best.

Our 48 and 96km teams kicked off Kokoda training on the weekend walking 10km through Polly’s Kitchen. This year, LORDS will have a record 25 teams and 96 students participate in the event. We wish all of our Kokoda students the very best as they embark on this challenging yet equally rewarding journey.

We had an amazing group of swimmers who did LORDS proud at our Inter-Lutheran Swimming Carnival. It’s a big step for many of our Year 4 students who took part in a large inter-school carnival for the first time. Sport isn’t just about winning and losing, it’s about challenging yourself and overcoming personal obstacles (fear and nerves). Our swimmers did that today. Congratulations to Aaliyah N, Finlay M, and Tasha B for their ribbons. Well done, LORDS!

Mia C recently competed in the Beenleigh Zone and Pacific District Netball Trials. We are super proud to announce that Mia was selected to represent the Pacific Netball Team on Wednesday, 6th March. Congratulations Mia. Very well done!

We’ve had a great start to our running club so far this year with over 80 students coming to our first two sessions. Open to all students in Years 2 – 12. You don’t have to necessarily run. You can walk, hop skip or do the gritty. If you’re keen, it happens on the oval from 7:30am – 8:15am on a Thursday morning.

The Club currently has all-female teams in the Football Queensland competitions from Under 8’s through to Senior Women. In addition to increasing the team numbers within these competitions, they are also looking to have ‘in house’ competition of small-sided games which may offer an opportunity for more girls to participate in a less competitive environment to start their football journey. This competition will be run on a ‘term’ basis and all be held at Viney Park on a Friday Night.
