As the year draws to a close, we pause to reflect on all we have shared as a community. It has been a year filled with growth, challenges, and joys. We give thanks for the gifts of learning, relationships, and understanding that have shaped our journey together.

To our parents and caregivers, thank you for entrusting us with your children and for walking alongside us in partnership.

To our students, thank you for your energy, engagement, and enthusiasm. Each of you brings something unique to our school, and we celebrate the way you continue to grow into who God has called you to be.

To our staff, thank you for your dedication, care, and commitment to nurturing young hearts and minds. You embody the LORDS Way in all you do, and your efforts leave a lasting impact.

As we approach Christmas, we are reminded of the joy, hope, and peace found in the birth of Christ. In the busyness of the season, may we take time to be still and reflect on the wonder of Emmanuel—God with us.

This Christmas, may we carry the light of Jesus into our homes, community, and hearts. Let us celebrate the greatest gift of all, the love of a Saviour who calls us to live with compassion, kindness, and joy.

Dear God,
Thank you for this year and all it has brought. For the challenges that have strengthened us, the joys that have uplifted us, and the people who have walked alongside us.
As we prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus, may we be filled with awe and wonder at Your love. Bless our families, staff, and students with peace and rest this Christmas. Guide us into the new year with hope and purpose, that we may serve You and each other with glad hearts.

Gift of Grace
It is my prayer that during this Advent and Christmas, you will be able to celebrate the many gifts you have been blessed with and most importantly have time to reflect on God’s gift to the world, Jesus Christ. ALWS gives us the opportunity to bless those close to us so we can bless those far away through their ‘Gifts of Grace’. All families should have received the catalogue for this year.

We have been encouraging our classes to give Gifts of Grace this year and so far we have made a difference by ensuring communities overseas can experience the joy of Christmas through clean water, school scholarships, kitchens, a long drop toilet, school supplies, and gardens.

As their journey with us drew to a close, our Year 12s celebrated in style! They started their Cohort Day by reconnecting with their teachers and bidding a heartfelt farewell to their Year 1 buddies.
The fun continued with an exciting morning of bowling and putt putt, where laughter and friendly competition were the highlights.
The grand finale was a vibrant colour run back at school, joined by the entire Secondary School. 

Final Cohort Day also means the final opportunity to ring the bell for our Year 12s. They enjoyed the chance to gather again and celebrate, spending time with their peers and teachers. 

It was a day full of joy, memories, and celebration as we honoured the amazing Year 12 students. Well done, Year 12! We're so proud of you!

Congratulations to the graduating class of 2024! 
Tears and laughter were flowing last Thursday as we farewelled our seniors. They represented themselves and our school so well. We also were able to acknowledge our very first students who have travelled with us from Prep- Year 12. May God bless these young people as they step out in faith and confidence into the world.

You will be missed!

It was a great celebration at our Secondary School Final Assembly. Not only did we get to acknowledge some fine student achievement with end-of-semester awards, but our Prep students also presented our Seniors of 2025 with their jerseys. This beautiful tradition has been part of the LORDS Story for many years. It is moments like these that make being part of a Prep – Year 12 community so special.

Our Elective Japanese students at LORDS recently enjoyed a ‘Japanese Movie Night’, watching the high school drama ‘Chihayafuru’.
The movie centres on 3 friends, their love of a traditional Japanese card game called Karuta, and their quest to win the National Karuta competition.
Students enjoyed an afternoon tea of sushi tested their knowledge of Karuta in a quick trivia competition and used their Japanese language skills to purchase snacks and drinks to enjoy while watching the movie.

Even Ms Hoff and Mrs Kinne gave ordering a go with the trusty help of the Year 9 students!

Recently our Year 7 cohort journeyed to the beautiful Japanese Garden at Mt Coot-tha.

They have been learning about the unique features of Japanese gardens in class, and this visit allowed them to experience the beauty and serenity of a Japanese garden firsthand. While in the garden, the students checked out the bonsai trees and tried their hand at traditional ink painting and 5-7-5 haiku poetry writing before enjoying a Japanese obento lunch under the shady trees. The students certainly captured the spirit of the day in their poems and paintings!

Year 9 cohort and their teachers and families celebrated the end of their Middle School journey. Students and staff enjoyed a night of dinner, dancing, and photo-booth fun together at the Gainsborough Greens Golf Club. The golf course made a perfect backdrop for our arrival photos and we’re sure you will agree that our students looked the part- they certainly had the moves on the dancefloor. 

We are very proud of the Year 9 cohort of 2024 and are excited to see the great things they achieve in Senior School.

'LEVEL UP' EXHIBITION - Students passionate about all things cyber security, game design, robotics, and 3D printing were invited to attend the 2024 'Level Up' Careers Exhibition in Brisbane.
Students had the opportunity to play some of the games recently developed by QUT Bachelor of Game Design students and discuss the various roles available within such a diverse industry.

YEAR 10 DISCOVERY PROGRAM

As part of the LORDS unique Year 10 Pathways Discovery Program, students participated in two workshops where they learned valuable, life-applicable knowledge about paying tax and superannuation and why it's important to understand how these apply to all of us.

Coming soon for a March 2025 Start – The City of Gold Coast Apprenticeships & Traineeships!

The City of Gold Coast is excited to announce it will soon be accepting Expressions of Interest for their 2025 apprenticeship & traineeship academy programs commencing March 2025. Offering school leavers valuable hands-on experience and a chance to kickstart their careers, the Trainee and Apprentice Academy programs are designed to equip people with essential experience, knowledge and skills, whilst also achieving a nationally recognised qualification.

We encourage you to share this information with your students, their parents and faculty, as it will be a fantastic pathway for professional growth.

What opportunities are available?
Candidates for the traineeship and apprenticeship opportunities will be able to apply from the 1st of January 2025. The best way to see what is on offer – and respond - is to head to the career page for The City of Gold Coast and follow either the Trainee Academy or the Apprentice Academy once the adverts open:

During Week 7, Ms Hoff ran a design thinking workshop with the student leaders from the Secondary School to develop a theme for the 2025 school year. They explored what is a purpose of a theme, how a theme is to be aligned with the values of the school, and has to be understood by students from Prep - Year 12. There was a lot of energy and excitement in the room, and we look forward to revealing our theme for 2025 at the start of next year.

Week 6 saw our annual Year 3 and Year 5 Market Day. The students had been busily preparing their items to sell. Thanks so much for supporting the students and their learning. All proceeds will be donated to Lutheran Drought Aid and ALWS.

As part of our Project Based Learning unit this semester, our Prep students were given a chores list during the September holidays which asked them to help at home. With the money they earned, our students purchased gifts for children experiencing homelessness. In class, we decorated bags for our gifts to go in and then we presented them to Soraya from St. Vinnies, who will pass them on to those in need.

Our Prep students visited the Queensland Museum in Brisbane and Sparklab as part of our Science unit, On the Move. Sparklab is an interactive science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM) space for young students. They had fun exploring and seeing how things work at Sparklab.

Junior School Swimming Carnival Splashes into Success! 
What an incredible day we had at the Junior School Swimming Carnival! The pool was buzzing with energy, enthusiasm, and exceptional sportsmanship from all our students. 
Congratulations to Logan House for taking home the overall win! Your teamwork and determination were truly inspiring. And a huge shoutout to Pimpama House, who claimed the Spirit Trophy with their unwavering enthusiasm and house pride!

What a great day we had at the LORDS Swimming Carnival on Thursday 21st November! From the Participation Races and the Nutbush flash mob, to poolside Jenga, the carnival was a celebration of energy, House spirit, and community.
➡️A special shout-out to our Year 11 student leaders and wider cohort, who led by example and were outstanding role models for all to follow. Your legacy building has started strong!
➡️Congratulations to 💛Albert House (999 points) 💛for winning the House Shield, after a fierce and day-long contest with ❤️Logan House (974 points)❤️ Well done also, to 💙Pimpama House💙 for claiming the Spirit Trophy after impressive performances in the Nutbush and in dressing up. It sure was a sea of blue!

Year 11 Sport and Recreation students attend a 4-hour practical session at Pimpama Sports Hub demonstrating lifesaving rescues, skills, and their swimming ability.
Coupled with a term’s worth of hard work all students finished the course with either their Bronze Medallion, Bronze Star, or Water Safety Certificate. Well done to all the students involved.

LORDS Community acknowledged Remembrance Day with a ceremony at school and School Captains (2025) attending the local service at Cabbage Tree Point. We are reminded of the sacrifice associated with service and give thanks to those people who have given and give of themselves in this service. Lest We Forget.
